The route of the Saltaire Cat Walk was designed as the most efficient route by which to navigate the village to see down every street and back alley. Rumour has it that it was the same Sir Titus Salt took to check on his workers to see that they were abiding by the ‘no laundry’ rule and that children were not playing marbles or jacks*. For an adult in moderate health it should take between 30 and 45 minutes not taking into consideration cat stops.

The walk is straightforward and broken into four coloured sections for ease of keeping track of the cats you have spotted. When you spot a cat mark it down in the appropriate section of the table and make a note of the cat’s colour and personality if you desire. If you own a portable camera you may also want to take a photograph.

Completed guides and photographs can be sent to zadanzig@yahoo.co.uk for inclusion on the gallery of this website.

Cat Spotting walks can be enjoyed at any time of day and in practically all weather conditions but please see the tips and guidelines to make the most of your walk both for you and for the residents of Saltaire.

*such games were prohibited in Saltaire as they bred ‘bad character’ and children would have one weeks wages docked if caught playing.
