1. Cat Spotting is most fruitful when conducted in the mid-afternoon to early evening. Most cats are lazy stop-outs and unlikely to be seen in the morning.
2. Cats show a dislike of the cold or wet. In conditions of strong wind or precipitation cats tend to take shelter under parked cars or in doorways. Be mindful of traffic and opening doors when checking these spots.
3. Cats in Saltaire are often seen socialising. Where there is one be extra-vigilant for others close by. Use your ears as well as your eyes; many talk.
4. Cat Spotting is an excellent way to navigate the village but please be respectful of residents’ privacy by restricting your cat spotting to the public throughways and streets. Cats seen deep in back yards, gardens, and front rooms are not considered valid ‘spots’.
5. The Saltaire Cat Walk involves crossing the busiest road in Europe, Sataire Road, twice. Please take appropriate care and use the Pelican and Zebra crossings.
6. Although most cats are vain animals some do not enjoy being handled by strangers or having their picture taken. If a cat is not forthcoming please do not pursue it and respect its personal space.
