The Travelling Gallery by Woolgather
Leeds Shopping Plaza. 3rd December 2009 – 1st March 2010

The Travelling Gallery was a group performance across the city by Leeds-based artist collective Woolgather, on Light Night 2009.

Each of the 11 members of Woolgather used the plinth – the structure upon which artworks are conventionally displayed – as a point of departure. The group took this humble and often overlooked piece of gallery furniture and re-imagined its potential as an artwork, bringing it to new environments and audiences.

This installation shows the props and plinths used in the night-long performance alongside photographic and video documentation. Works include a fact-machine costume, a diminishing oversized cornflake cake and a Russian doll plinth set.
